The “Nourishing Futures” project aims to develop and distribute a ready-to-drink, functional, hydrating and nutritious beverage that will have a positive impact on the health of children in conditions of malnutrition. This beverage will be rich in essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals, formulated to support the healthy growth and development of children in vulnerable communities. The initiative includes product research and development, pilot testing, large-scale production, and distribution in high-need areas.
In the first phase, we will carry out product research and development activities, along with pilot testing in a controlled environment.
Problem and Context
Child malnutrition is a critical problem affecting millions of children around the world, especially in regions with limited economic resources. This condition can lead to serious health problems, delayed physical and cognitive development, and lower academic performance. “Nourishing Futures” focuses on vulnerable communities where the incidence of malnutrition is particularly high, providing a practical and sustainable solution.
Key facts:
According to UNICEF, 15.5 million Colombians live in food insecurity; 2.1 million are in a serious situation and 13.4 million in a moderate situation (WFP, 2023).
In Antioquia, nearly 49,000 children suffer from chronic malnutrition. According to the executive director of the Association of Food Banks of Colombia, 1,090 Antioquians have insufficient consumption of foods rich in vitamins and proteins.
Specific Objectives
- Research and select natural and sustainable ingredients that promote hydration, nutrition and functionality.
